Debut Voices with Edel Coffey, Aingeala Flannery and Conner Habib interviewed by Mairead Hearne. €15
Bringing together three very different debut voices this promises to be a fascinating evening. Set in contemporary New York, Edel Coffey’s debut Breaking Point examines the effect a tragedy has on a family and reflects on the pressure that modern society exerts upon women today. Conner Habib’s Hawk Mountain is set in a small town on the New England Coast and introduces characters trapped in isolation by the expansive woods and the encroaching ocean, their violence an expression of repressed desire and the damage it can inflict. Set in Tramore, Co Waterford over three decades Aingeala Flannery’s The Amusements follows the Grant and Swaine families and their neighbours and is an unforgettable story about roads taken and not taken. It is a brilliantly observed portrait of life in a small town. The three writers will be interviewed onstage by book blogger and enthusiast Mairead Hearne.
